Center Life

A typical day at Arecibo Job Corps is full of activities to help our students prepare for the real world. Students get up early and spend the majority of their day receiving academic and hands-on career technical training.

After class, students study or hang out with friends before dinner in the cafeteria. After dinner, students may do chores in their dorms or spend their downtime studying. Most students are in bed by 10 PM in order to rest for the next day's tasks.

Recreation

Arecibo Job Corps boasts one of the best recreation programs in the nation. Students find our recreational activities to be a fun and exciting way to meet new friends, socialize, and just relax and unwind at the end of the day. We offer the following activities:

  • Art classes
  • Basketball
  • Off-center trips on weekends
  • Soccer
  • Volleyball

Throughout the year, we have competitions with the other two Job Corps centers of Puerto Rico. We also schedule themed dances and trips to local shopping centers, restaurants, and cultural sites.

Student Government Association

With the Student Government Association, students can participate in a democratic process of self-government, representing and directing the student body. The Student Government Association functions as a link between the staff and students of Arecibo Job Corps.

Additionally, the Student Government Association:

  • Develops activities that enrich the education and social life of our students
  • Allows students to develop leadership skills
  • Allows students to gain personal, social, and enterprise administration skills
  • Participates in the welcoming of new students
  • Participates in disciplinary procedings
  • Operates the student store

In general, the Student Government Association helps staff and students improve the quality of the Job Corps experience.

Community Relations

Arecibo Job Corps Center has established the Industrial Committee and the Citizen Committee to link our center with the local community. These committees meet several times a year. Members of local schools, universities, police, firefighters and employers gather at these meetings for the benefit of the local community as well as for the benefit of our students.

Safety

Job Corps is committed to offering all students a safe and secure environment. That's why we have a Zero Tolerance Policy for violence, alcohol, and drugs. Any student who breaks this policy will be dismissed immediately from Job Corps.
